Almirall reaffirms its commitment to the environment with renewal of its ISO 14001:2004 certificate
This certificate endorses the company’s commitment to the environment and its surpassing of current national legislation and responsibility for continuous improvement
- This year’s renewal demonstrates the continuity of Almirall’s environmental policy, by which all company facilities include the latest equipment to guarantee respect of the environment
Barcelona, 23 July 2010.- Almirall, the international pharmaceutical company based in Spain, renews the ISO 14001:2004 certificate it was awarded in 2004 by the Spanish section of Bureau Veritas Certification S.A.U., the organisation linked to the International Organization for Standarization (ISO). Certification of this international standard, which recognises the quality of the company’s environmental management system, endorses Almirall’s commitment to the environment and indicates that it has surpassed current national legislation and responsibility for continuous improvement.
The certificate was first renewed in 2007 to include the new R&D centre in Sant Feliu de Llobregat (Barcelona). The latest update once again validates Almirall’s centres that received the ISO management system certificate in 2004, and the aforementioned centre. After successful renewal of the certificate in 2007, in 2009 it was transferred to TÜV Rheinland.
This certificate has been renewed in 2010 after another thorough assessment audit.
Commitment to the environment The ISO 14001:2004 certificate represents continuity in Almirall’s environmental policy, as all company facilities incorporate the latest analytical and experimentation equipment and systems and are conditioned to guarantee respect for the environment.
The scope of the certificate includes research and development activities, the manufacture of active ingredients and bulk manufacturing and sale of pharmaceutical products.
Almirall’s environmental policy is based on the following basic principles:
- Commitment to continuous improvement of our environmental management.
- Commitment to contamination prevention (reduction or elimination at origin systems, reuse or recycling, recovery and processing and control mechanisms).
- Efficient and rational management of natural resources (raw material, energy, water).
- Establishing periodical environmental management programmes with environmental objectives and targets for continuous improvement of the environmental management system.
- Implication and participation by employees and Almirall’s collaborating companies , in applying this environment policy.
- Recycling medicines, Through affiliation to the Integrated System for Management and Collection of Pharmaceutical Waste (SIGRE), created and promoted by the national association for the pharmaceutical industry in Spain (Farmaindustria).
