Almirall, pioneer in obtaining the OHSAS 18001 for occupational health and safety, renews the certificate
- In 2007 Almirall was awarded the prestigious certificate by TÜVRheinland that endorses conformity of its Occupational Health and Safety Management system to the international standard OHSAS 18001
- The certificate has been renewed in 2010 and recognises the application of quality standards in excess of current Spanish legislation
Barcelona, 5 October 2010.- Almirall, the international pharmaceutical company based in Spain, was one of the pioneering laboratories in obtaining the prestigious TÜRheinland certificate in 2007, which it is now renewing and as such endorsing conformity of its Occupational Health and Safety Management System to international standard OHSAS 18001:2007. Renewal was granted after a further thorough assessment audit on all Almirall centres and activity in Spain. TÜVRheinland certifies that the company is continuously applying the most up-to-date and demanding health and safety criteria in the workplace, in excess of current Spanish standards.
Almirall occupational health and safety in figures The company provided its employees in Spain with around 4,100 hours of training in occupational health and safety in 2009. This means 350 training activities for 1,250 people; an average of 3.3 hours per employee. To encourage attendance at these training sessions various methodologies were employed, from the classic in-class training to e-learning modules. This means that 85% of the Almirall Spain workforce has received online training.
Also, in the same year, 205 risk assessments were carried out in sites and job positions and over 60 safety inspections and internal audits were performed.
About OHSAS 18001 OHSAS 18001 (Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series) is an Occupational Risk Prevention Management System developed by an international consortium of standardisation and certification organisations. The standard was published in 1999 by the BSI (British Standards Institution). OHSAS 18001 sets out the structural elements of an Occupational Health and Safety Management System to revise, manage and improve occupational risk control. The standard includes a series of controls and requirements that help the company comply with applicable legislation and a continuous improvement process.
