City of Mexico/Barcelona - 8 February 2011.- The Ethics and Transparency Council of the Pharmaceutical Industry  (CETIFARMA) in Mexico has awarded Almirall Mexico the distinction for Companies with Transparent Practices. This recognition publicly commends pharmaceutical companies located in Mexico that comply with the Code of Best Practices for Promotion (CBPP).

Almirall Mexico’s efforts in complying with the CBPP have been rewarded through the results of an audit carried out by Gestión Social y Cooperación (GESOC), an independent organisation.

According to Israel García, Almirall’s Mexico General Manager, “for a pharmaceutical company like Almirall, which is committed to people’s health, it is an honour to receive this recognition certifying that our activities are performed ethically and transparently”.

By being awarded this certificate, Almirall Mexico was rated positively in its promotional politics and practices. It underwent a thorough document assessment as well as interviews with those involved in the process. A survey was also performed with a sample of doctors to corroborate these best practices.

Code of Best Practices for Promotion (CBPP) The Code of Best Practices for Promotion establishes an action framework for promotional activities performed in Mexico by pharmaceutical companies, in which their representatives interact with doctors or other health professionals.

The aim of the CBPP is to establish action standards of general compliance without curbing medical and scientific information exchange or preventing the organising of academic and dissemination events that drive the pharmaceutical industry’s progress in serving society.

The code was approved in March 2005 and establishes action principles that define conduct to be followed and promotes values related to honesty, transparency, veracity, impartiality and responsibility in promotional practices by pharmaceutical laboratories.
