  • The ISO 14001:2004 certification endorses Almirall’s commitment to the environment, which goes beyond current national legislation and demonstrates its pledge to continuous improvement.

  • Almirall has cut down on the use of solvents in production centres by 30% and the volume of greenhouse effect gas emissions by 3%

Barcelona, 3rdJuly 2013.-Almirall has renewed its ISO 14001:2004 certification obtained in 2004.  Certification of this international standard, which recognizes the quality of the company’s environmental management system, is an endorsement of Almirall’s commitment to the environment, even beyond that of current national legislation, and its concern for continuous improvement.

The updating consisted of a thorough assessment audit by TÜV Rheinland, leading to Almirall’s centres in Spain being validated once again, while their applicability is extended to the Almirall centres in Germany, in Reinbek (Hamburg) and Bad Homburg (Frankfurt).

The certificate covers research and development activities, manufacturing of active ingredients and manufacturing and wholesale trading of pharmaceutical products.

Commitment to health and safety and the environment

The pharmaceutical company has cut its greenhouse effect gas emissions, resulting from energy consumption, in the R&D and production centres by 3%.  Also, thanks to Almirall’s commitment to optimising its manufacturing processes by cutting down on the use of solvents, since 2008 this consumption has gone down by 30% in its production centres.

In terms of waste volume, Almirall has managed to reduce by 30% non-recoverable and non-hazardous waste over the last four years.

Under a single unified policy in 2012 Almirall integrated the environmental management corporate system (ISO 14001:2004) into the occupational health and safety management system (OHSAS 18001:2007) and the new energy management system (ISO 50001:2011).
