Almirall is awarded the “Prince Felipe Prize for Business Competitiveness for Large Enterprises” from the Ministry of Industry

This is the second time Almirall has won this prize, the first being the prize for Technological Innovation in 1994.

 

Barcelona, November 18th 2004.-Almirall, the leading Spanish pharmaceutical multinational, has been awarded the Prince Felipe Prize for Business Excellence in the area of Business Competitiveness for large companies, a prize granted each year by the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade.

 

The Prince Felipe Prizes are awarded in a total of nine categories, with the award for Business Competitiveness – for both large companies and SMEs – a step above the rest since it evaluates all the competitive factors that are encompassed in each of the other areas awarded: Industrial Quality, Design, Technological Innovation, Internationalisation, the Tourism Industry, the Information Society and Information and Communication Technologies, Renewable Energies and Energy Efficiency, and Top Brand Management.

 

The prize has been awarded to Almirall for its ongoing, exemplary efforts in the research and technological development of new medicines, for being a leader in its therapeutic areas, and for its investment endeavour in R&D, which has shown a spectacular increase in the years 2003 and 2004.

 

According to the jury’s statement, the 9th edition of the Prince Felipe Prize for Business Competitiveness was awarded to Almirall due to “its process of internationalisation based on the establishment of subsidiaries outside Spain and on its licensing agreements for its own internally-researched products; its implementation of an effective human resources policy, creating new positions within the working organisation as elements of cohesion between Corporate Management and the other areas; and its implementation of a new method of reorganising the production system based on trust”.

 

The Prince Felipe Prize awards ceremony took place on 18th November at the National Music Auditorium in Madrid, and dignitaries attending included Their Royal Highnesses the Prince and Princess of Asturias, Don Felipe de Borbón and Doña Letizia Ortiz, and the Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism, José Montilla, as well as other renowned personages from the worlds of politics, economics and society.

The Prince Felipe Prizes for Business Excellence have been awarded for eleven years and have become the most prestigious prize granted in recognition of the companies that have most distinguished themselves in Spain by improving its competitive factors.From the beginning, these prizes have had the support of His Royal Highness, Prince Felipe, who has honoured them by bestowing his name upon them and presiding over the awards ceremony.Both the method of choosing the winners and the independent nature of the juries ensure the neutrality, impartiality and objectivity of these awards.
