Almirall, 50% below the pharmaceutical sector accident rate
- Renewal of the OHSAS 18001:2007 certificate demonstrates its commitment to occupational health and safety in Spain and is extended to the Almirall centres in Germany
- Almirall Germany centres have a practically nil accident rate
- The company allocated a total of 3,800 training hours to health, safety and the environment in 2012
Barcelona, 17th July 2013.- Almirall, one of the pioneering laboratories in obtaining the TÜV Rheinland certificate for its centres in Spain in 2007, has just had it renewed as testament to compliance by its Occupational Health and Safety Management System with the international standard OHSAS 18001:2007.
This renewal encompasses all Almirall centres and activities in Spain and has been extended to the centres in Germany in Reinbek (Hamburg) and Bad Homburg (Frankfurt). TÜV Rheinland therefore certifies that the company is consistently applying the latest and most demanding occupational health and safety criteria, even beyond current legislation.
The scope of this certificate covers research and development activities, manufacturing of active ingredients and manufacturing and wholesale trading of pharmaceutical products.
Almirall occupational health and safety in figures
In 2012 the pharmaceutical company allocated a total of 3,800 training hours to health, safety and the environment. It also carried out various preventative campaigns, such as an international awareness campaign for road safety, which was awarded the International Safety Award at the Fleet Europe Awards 2012.
In the same year, 270 risk assessments were performed on sites and work stations, as well as 140 safety inspections and internal audits.
This constant hard work has meant that Almirall has managed to cut its accident rate in Spain by half and is 50% below the official pharmaceutical sector rate. Meanwhile, the accident rate in centres in Germany is practically nil.
Under a single unified policy, in 2012 Almirall integrated the occupational health and safety management system (OHSAS 18001:2007) into the environmental management system (ISO 14001:2004) and the new energy management system (ISO 50001:2011).
