Ethics & Compliance

The fundamental values that drive how we conduct business at every level are: integrity, transparency and accountability which enable us to deliver business initiatives in a responsible and sustainable manner.

 

Our business conduct is informed by our compliance program focused on communication, training, risk management, policies and procedures and individual case management – all applying a mindset of continuous improvement.

In 2024, we launched several initiatives – such as the Compliance & Ethics Week – aimed at enhancing employee engagement on these topics using gamification approaches to bring the fundamental pillars of our business conduct to life and to test employee’s knowledge.   

 

Simultaneously, our Code of Ethics was updated to further clarify the company´s ethical work principles and expectations, and the accompanying training achieved a 98% on-time completion rate amongst all employees 

SpeakUp! 

As part of our efforts to uphold the highest standards of integrity and accountability, we have enhanced Almirall’s ‘SpeakUp!’, a communication channel which allows our employees and external partners to confidentially report any potential concerns, suspicions of misconduct or unethical behaviour that might violate the principles of the Law and our Code of Ethics.   

As part of our non-retaliation policy, we have encouraged employees to speak up and report situations without concerns about potential retaliation, while our leaders have fostered a culture of trust and full transparency to support this goal. This year, we’ve strengthened our activities in this area by optimizing the reporting process and increasing awareness. 

Prevention and Detection of
Corruption and Bribery 

Our Anti-Bribery and Anti-Corruption (ABAC) policy equips our employees with training and the essential principles to identify, prevent and mitigate bribery and corruption risks. This training is offered to all new employees and refreshers are encouraged every two years to all staff – including leaders and top management.  

The Global Compliance team conducts regular monitoring and risk assessments – addressing any identified risks with the relevant leaders in the organisation. The Internal Audit department also audits global operations for ABAC risks. In 2024, no material cases of bribery or corruption were identified.  

Corporate Policies
and Procedures

In 2024, we reviewed and updated all existing Corporate Policies as part of a two-year project, creating clear and actionable guidelines for policy drafting, ownership and life-cycle management, and streamlining approval processes. We have updated several of our Corporate Policies since then, including the Ethical Healthcare Interactions  and Sustainability policies,  reflecting the highest standards of integrity and ethical behaviour in our business practices. 

Our commitment to transparency and accountability has contributed to our Top Employer recognitions in Spain and Germany in 2024, which highlighted our culture focus on Ethics & Integrity. This is further supported by our adherence to strong ethical guidelines, compliance programs and reporting mechanisms such as SpeakUp 

Information Security
and Data Privacy

Almirall utilises an Information Security Programme that aims at protecting strategic information and critical business processes in line with market standards such as NIST Cyber-Security Framework and the NIST 800-53 series.  

This Information Security Programme is risk-oriented and holistic, covering the triad Processes, Technology and People, with special emphasis on becoming a cyber-resilient organization. 

At Almirall, our Information Security Programme is integrated with Data Privacy, guided by the principle of security-by-design, and covers third party risk management with a risk-oriented approach. 

This year we have progressed significantly in maturing our cyber protection, detection and response capabilities by implementing proactive risk mitigation plans and increasing our focus on security and risk management in line with the increasing complexity and external threat levels. 

In addition, we evolved the procedure for data privacy due diligence with new partners by optimizing processes to minimize risks.
