At Almirall, we consider environmental respect as an obligation to society, to ourselves and to sustainability now and for future generations. In addition to strict compliance with legal regulations, we carry out our own environmental policy, which ensures prevention of pollution through energy-efficient processes and responsible resource and waste management.
COLLECTING UNUSED MEDICINES
Our environmental commitment also includes collecting and managing unused medicines. For example, in Spain we are affiliated to the Integrated System for Management and Collection of Pharmaceutical Waste (SIGRE), a non-profit organisation for the collection and management of household medical waste. CYCLAMED in France is a similar example.
The implementation of our environmental policy has led to ISO140001:2004 certification in Spain (since 2004) and Germany (since 2013). This stringent certification covers the R&D, manufacture of active pharmaceutical ingredients and manufacture and wholesale of drug products. Awarded by TÜV Rheinland, it certifies that Almirall applies the latest, most demanding environmental management criteria, beyond the standards of current legislation.
In addition, in 2013 we have obtained the new ISO50001:2011 certification, also from TÜV Rheinland, for the energy management system at our main work centres in Spain. By implementing a system to make more efficient use of energy, we aim to reduce our impact on the environment even further. Almirall is one of the first pharmaceutical companies to be awarded this internationally-recognised certification. This stringent certification covers the R&D, manufacture of active pharmaceutical ingredients and manufacture and wholesale of drug products.
ONE UNIFIED POLICY
Almirall's health and safety, environmental and energy policies have been amalgamated into a single, integrated management system, regularly updated, and certified by TÜV Rheinland.
